We take pride in working with exceptional British manufacturers, who make premium quality products at competitive prices, and provide a huge variety of choice. Our complimentary interior design service helps our customers create beautiful homes, which reflect their style and personality.
The choice of fabrics for our bespoke upholstery and made to measure curtains & blinds is huge. Even our accessories can be customised! Brands include Designers Guild, Linwood, Mulberry Home, Morris & Co, GP&J Baker and more. The hard wood frames in our sofas and chairs are all sustainably sourced. You can choose to have environmentally friendly options including recycled fabrics and seat cushion inserts made from recycled plastic bottles. We also offer a reupholstery service for your existing furniture.
BOWERBIRDS HISTORY
Bowerbirds Interiors began life in 2012 when it’s founder, Ali Holman, decided to combine her skills and experience as a fashion and retail buyer, with her knowledge and passion for design and interiors. In the beginning, Bowerbirds operated as an in-home design and product sourcing service for customers, and its popularity grew with a reputation for excellent service.
In 2019 Bowerbirds Interiors launched its first mail order catalogue and online shop, then in order to meet growing demand, the first Bowerbirds Chelmsford showroom opened in 2020. The success of the showroom soon meant that more space was needed, so in 2022, Bowerbirds spent two months renovating the ground floor of 59 New Street - a beautiful building that actually used to be the original Chelmsford police station!
Situated on the corner of New Street and Waterloo lane, at the top of Chelmsford High street, adjacent to Shire Hall and with a beautiful view of Chelmsford Cathedral, the new Bowerbirds city centre showroom officially opened its doors on the 1st of October 2022 with an ever expanding collection of sofas, chairs, fabrics and accessories.
The post code for the new Bowerbirds showroom is CM1 1NE. Car parking is available in the car parks on Waterloo Lane. We are also less than 5 minutes walk from Tesco, John Lewis and Riverside Leisure Centre car parks. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, where you will find a warm welcome and plenty of choice. Come in and see us - we’d love to meet you!

A new place to relax
From what started as a need to replace our sofas to a complete revamp of the living and Dinning Room Ali has been there every step of the way and helped make it a wonderful experience. Two lovely sofas, comfy, the perfect fit and eco friendly with the added beifit of not only being able to chose the material and colour but to have our other furniture covered to match. Follow this up with the help and support to find some amazing complementary curtain material a bespoke curtain pole and custom made accessories the room is looking and feeling amazing. Thank you Ali for your help support and advice it made the whole thing such a pleasure and hassle free.

Beautiful sofas of high quality
We had been looking for sofas for three years and accidently came by Ali's shop on a visit to Chelmsford. We are super happy with our sofas. Ali advised on what would suit us best with colour scheme and more. She went out of her way to ensure we got what we wanted and had our loveseat was made to size. Everyone who visits tells us how comfy the sofas are and the quality is outstanding. I would highly recommend this store not just for sofas but advice and other items like lighting and rugs which is our next step.
The showroom is a breath of fresh air
The showroom is a breath of fresh air and inspiring colour combinations. Alison knows how to put colours together and as an interior designer is well placed to advise and is really helpful. I got a Tetrad snuggler -it’s SO comfortable! I totally love it! The furniture is a bit different from most box store shops and you can get cushions, rugs and lamps etc to match. Alison was incredibly helpful with advice and was flexible on delivery. I would definitely buy from Bowerbirds again.
So good we came back again
We have used Ali at Bowerbirds twice. She designed and sourced furniture, curtains, carpet and a rug for our living room the first time. A year later, still so pleased with our new living area we turned back to Bowerbirds' interior design service for a dining room and some bespoke furniture. We now have two beautiful, practical, comfortable living areas and couldn't be more pleased with the service and goods we received.

My lovely dog friendly sofa
It was lovely to be able to use a local, friendly, helpful very competitive small business. Ali sat and listened to all my needs as to what I wanted and hadn’t been able to find elsewhere or have the confidence in what previous retailers had told me about certain fabrics. I absolutely love my new velvet settee, will certainly recommend her to friends & family
Fantastic customer service and beautiful sofas
After hunting around for absolutely ages for the perfect sofa for an awkward space, we came across Ali at Bowerbirds who was SO helpful. She offers a large range of Tetrad sofas in so many different fabrics at good prices. She provided such helpful personalised advice that when we finally were ready to purchase a few months later we really wanted to purchase from her because I remembered how good she was. The delivery team were excellent and managed to squeeze it through a very awkward space no problem. We now have a beautiful vintage green velvet Chesterfield that I'm obsessed with! Thanks so much to Ali and her team, I would highly recommend Bowerbirds to anyone.

Large sofa and snuggler
Having purchased a large sofa and snuggler, Ali has been so helpful! The choice of fabrics are amazing and taking them home to ‘live with them’ for a couple of days really helped. Ali has kept me informed and updated during the whole process and went out of her way to ensure my choice of sofa would fit! I cannot say enough wonderful things...
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Ali and the Bowerbirds interiors offering (and I'm a difficult customer to please). So much choice and customisation, plus that one to one service which you cannot find in any of the major high street furniture stores. The variety of products is immense and Ali handles everything from start to finish. As with all customised purchases you can suffer from delays in supply from time to time but, it was extremely well handled by Ali and I was kept updated throughout the process. I have purchased a considerable amount from Bowerbirds in the past 12 months and can safely recommend them to anyone thinking of using the design service. The fact I will continue to make all future furniture purchases through them is testament to how good they are. Keep up the great work.
